An Adventurous Wedding Story

View More Photos

Sarah and Kieran met in Wellington, New Zealand at a local CrossFit gym. A one-year work trip for Sarah turned into seven years as the pair knew they were meant to be! The adventurous couple’s first date was a hike up the bluffs of Makara Beach in Wellington, New Zealand. This hike would turn into one of their favorite dates and become the location for their proposal story. On one date, Kieran and Sarah stopped at the top of the bluffs during their Makara Beach hike and Kieran knelt to propose. He proposed to Sarah a family ring her father gave to Kieran during their previous trip to America. The pair began wedding planning immediately.

Pearmund Cellars in Broad Run, Virginia would be the location for Sarah and Kieran’s intimate wedding. The groom and groomsmen wore their traditional family tartan kilts with the bridesmaids wearing matching green dresses. Sarah’s dress was a stunning fit-and-flare open-back style dress with three quarter lace sleeves. Her best friend lent her Jimmy Choo pumps that fit perfectly minutes before Sarah walked down the aisle. A handkerchief that belonged to Sarah’s great grandmother was pinned to her bouquet for sentimental value. Flowers were featured in each of the ladies’ hairstyles.

The couple chose to keep the guest count small, with guests traveling to their wedding from throughout the world. This was a wonderful opportunity for each side of the family to meet and celebrate as Sarah and Kieran had family in America and New Zealand. Having their family together was an important part of their special day. They splurged on photography for the beautiful memories and wine for their guests. Many personal aspects were featured throughout the fun-filled wedding day such as the couple’s favorite English breakfast tea and classic British biscuits. A guitarist played Sarah and Kieran’s song, Jose Gonzales' version of "Heartbeats". Homemade French macarons were gifted to guests as favors that Sarah baked then drove 25 hours to the venue. Sarah’s sister designed their invitations for another DIY feature. The couple’s advice for those that are currently planning their wedding is to “keep it fun and remember you're there to celebrate spending the rest of your life with your person, and that's what matters the most!”
