First, start honeymoon planning early so you can get the best prices! You would want to book your honeymoon eight months prior if at all possible. This way, you have time to shop around and price check.

Next, work together. Honeymoon planning should be a decision that you and your spouse make together. Pick a place that both of you would like or a location that means something to you both. Have an agreement on how much money you think you should spend on your honeymoon

Remember, don't copy somebody else's travel itinerary! Make this trip custom to what you and your spouse would like to do. Consider using a travel agent while planning a honeymoon! They have inside knowledge on deals and discounts and how certain hotels and all-inclusive resorts work. A trusted travel agent can make your entire planning process less stressful! It's understandable to think that you could probably shop around online yourself and find excellent deals without using a travel agent! But, what are you going to do when you're overseas, and somebody stole your purse with your passport inside? A travel agent can offer additional benefits that are worth paying a little extra!

If you hired a travel agent, you could call them for help! Their company can help you navigate what you would need to do to have a replacement passport issued. This way can continue your honeymoon travel and still be able to leave the country. If your baggage goes missing, is damaged, or your flight is overbooked, a travel agent is just a phone call away! They'll be able to help navigate what you would need to do to make your honeymoon experience get back on track. If you booked online, sorry, friend, you're totally on your own!

Next, be aware of any hidden costs like airport baggage fees! Unfortunately, you should expect additional charges for things not included in the all-inclusive vacation package. Sometimes you can expect to have a resort fee once you arrive at your honeymoon vacation destination. It could be fifty to a hundred dollars a day for your entire stay. Having a travel agent again will help you be able to navigate these additional hidden fees. This way, you know that you're not overspending, or you don't find a surprise bill at the beginning or end of your honeymoon trip. Many recently married couples end up spending their extra travel money at the hotel before their vacation truly even starts!

Did you know that when you're planning a honeymoon, you don't have to leave right after your wedding? We can't tell you how many brides and grooms set their flight to leave at 6:00 AM the morning after their wedding day! Please do not do that to yourself! It's going to be stressful enough to plan a wedding and then execute said event! A wedding is more than just five to 10:00 PM schedule. Believe us; it's an all-day kind of thing! Between hair and makeup and getting ready, setting up, wedding photography, etc., there are hours before work before your wedding even starts.

The last thing you want to do is be onsite at a wedding venue from nine o'clock in the morning until midnight and wake up at six o'clock in the morning to catch a flight the next day. Give yourself a nice break of at least a day or two so that way you can catch your breath and relax and enjoy each other. Also, typically you're probably going to have a lot of friends and family you haven't seen in a while in town for your wedding. So if you leave for your honeymoon at six o'clock in the morning, you miss the opportunity to spend some extra time with those friends and family members. A post-wedding brunch the day after is a wonderful experience!

Now back to the honeymoon! When you are there on your honeymoon, you need to balance activities and relaxation time. After you get there, you'll want to celebrate being married! Schedule time with your significant other to do absolutely nothing but be in each other's company. Ensure that you don't run yourself ragged trying to be a tourist and see all the sites! Schedule some surprises to keep things interesting! Surprises like a couple's massage or a special dinner add excitement to the trip. You can do some research on what your honeymoon location has to offer. You should also do some research on the type of room that you're booking! Know beforehand the layout, what's included, how big the bathroom is, does it have a view or balcony, etc.

Let the hotel know that it's your honeymoon if they didn't ask previously. And if you have any special requests! Sometimes hotels will surprise guests with a free couples massage or a spa package or free breakfast, or even just a cute little sash that says, "Congratulations, Mr and Mrs" across the door during your honeymoon.
